Course objectives
The course follows the courses American literature 1 or Text Interpretation 2. It focuses on the development of American literature from the beginnings of the 20th century until now. Main attention is paid to the period of modernism. The course emphasizes the plurality of American literature and as such focuses largely on minority literature, especially African American and Jewish.
Learning outcomes
The student will be able to define the main features of American literature, will have the knowledge of major American writers and works, will be able to analyze texts from various times and genres, and will be able to apply basic literary terms and use secondary sources.
