Strutkura předmětu obsahuje objasnění základních pojmů informačních služeb digitálních knihoven. Postihuje historické okolnosti vzniku digitálních knihoven, příklady prvních digitálních knihoven, definici digitální knihovny, sektory, kterými je digitální knihovna tvořena, technické protokoly, standardy a systémy tvorby digitálních knihoven. Součástí je seznámení s metadaty a jejich uplatněním v digitálních knihovnách.
