Prezentovat soubor poznatků a vývojové tendence v oblasti informačních služeb a informačních potřeb uživatelů v soudobé společnosti. Zvládnout typologii informačních služeb, pozornost věnovat také komerčním informačním službám, modelům šíření a vyhledávání informací prostřednictvím internetu. Nastínit problematiku public relations v souvislosti s propagací informačních služeb.
