Course objectives
The cycle of lectures and seminars is dedicated to an overview of Italian literature from the 16th to the 18th century. The lectures aim to characterize a given period from a literary, historical and social point of view and to present the main authors of the period. The seminars focus on an analysis of a series of literary works. The course programme is freely completed by the course of Italian literature in film 2.

  • 1.-2. La tradizione canterina e la cultura del Rinascimento in Ariosto.

    3.-4. La trattatistica politica e la codificazione della lingua.
    Analisi: Bembo: estratto da Prose della volgar lingua
    5. La tradizione dell`anticlassicismo letterario e teatrale.
    Analisi: Beolco: Il parlamento de Ruzante
    6. La novella cinquecentesca e seicentesca.
    Analisi: Bandello: estratto da Novelle
    7. La trattatistica come codificazione del comportamento.
    Analisi: Castiglione: estratto da Il Corteggiano
    8. L`eta' del Manierismo e della controriforma.
    Analisi: Tasso Aminta
    9.-10. Il Barocco. L`Arcadia ed il Melodramma e la riforma del teatro di Goldoni.
    Analisi: Goldoni: da La locandiera
    11.-12. L'illuminismo e G. Parini. Il neoclassicismo e l`eta' napoleonica. L`opera di Alfieri e Foscolo.
