Course objectives
The aim is to make students familiar with the issues of copyright. The knowledge of which is essential for any user of a work or its author. The student are able to see the copyright not only in the language of the law.
Syllabus
  • Introduction to the basics of law. Definition of basic legal concepts and terms. Branch of law. The court system and the basic principles of justice. The status of copyright in the national and international law.
    Authorship work. Legal characteristics of copyright works. What is a work and not? Practical examples. The emergence of copyright works. Author and co-author.
    Moral rights. The definition of personal rights. Duration of moral rights. Protection of rights after the author's death. Moral rights in practical examples.
    Property rights. The definition of property rights. Legal characteristics of selected property rights. Duration of property rights. Free work.
    Free usage of the work and the legal license. Usage of the work for personal use. Quoting. Work located in a public place. Reporting license. Usage of of school work. Practical examples of the usage of works without permission of the author.
    Author's work and the Internet. Disclosure of copyright works on the Internet, the issue of the so-called: Copyright haevens.. Downloading copyrighted works from the Internet. Persons responsible for copyright infringement on the Internet. Current cases.
    The consequences of copyright infringement. Author's right to damages and unjust enrichment. Penalties according to the Copyright Act. Criminal penalties. Copyright violations and their consequences on practical examples.
    License. License Agreement: definitions, requirements. Exclusive and non-exclusive license, sublicense. Employee work, school work. Special types of licenses. The issue of free software.
    The rights of performers, publishers, record producers and collective management. Special treatment of personal and property rights of performers, publishers, engineers. Collective management. Term: Collective administrators. Powers.
