- Course objectives
- The aim of this course is to get students familiar with toxicology, evaluation of the impact of substances to the individual components of the environment and human health, and with environmental legislation.
- Syllabus
- 1. General toxicology (toxic substance and toxicity, molecular and cellular
toxicology, dose, concentration, interaction, effects, exposure, biotransformation
of toxic substances in the organism).
2. Chemical carcinogenesis, genetic toxicology. Experimental toxicology (work
with laboratory animals, laboratory tests with test animals)
3. Classification of harmful chemical substances (poisons), toxicology of
inorganic and organic substances.
4. Drug addiction, factors leading to drug addiction, an overview of the most
important specific poisonings and given antidotes, first aid, mechanisms of
biotransformation of some organic substances and compounds.
5. Environmental Law (17/1992 Sb.), the Law (350/2011 Sb.) on chemical
substances and mixtures and on amendments to certain laws (the Chemical Law)
and implementing regulations, the Law on accident prevention and implementing
regulations, the most important world's accidents.
6. The Law (334/1992 Sb.) on the protection of agricultural land and implementing
regulations, the Law (289/1995 Sb.) on forests and on amendments to certain laws
(the Forest Law) and implementing regulations, the Law (114/1992 Sb.) of nature
and landscape protection and implementing regulations, the Law (100/2004 Sb.)
on protection of species of wild fauna and flora by regulating trade with them
and other measures to protect these species and on amendments to certain laws
(the Law on trade with endangered species) and implementing regulations.
7. The Law (246/1992 Sb.) on the protection of animals against cruelty and
implementing regulations, the Law (449/2001 Sb.) on hunting and implementing
regulations, the Law (99/2004 Sb.) on fish farming, execution of the fishing law,
fishing guard, protection of marine fisheries resources and on amendments to
certain laws (the Fishing Law) and its implementing regulations.
8. The Law (100/2001 Sb.) on the assessment of impacts on the environment and
on amendments to certain related laws (Act on the assessment of impacts on the
environment) and the implementing regulations.
9. The Law (185/2001 Sb.) on waste and on amendments to certain other laws and
implementing regulations, the Clean Air Law (201/2001 Sb.) and implementing
regulations.
10. The Law (254/2001 Sb.) on water and on amendments to certain laws (the Water
Law) and implementing regulations, the Law (274/2001 Sb.) on water supply and
sewerage systems for public use and on amendments to certain laws (the Water
supply and sewerage systems law) and implementing regulations.
11. The Law (76/2002 Sb.) on integrated pollution prevention and control, the
Integrated pollution register and on amendments to certain laws (Law on integrated
prevention) and the implementing regulations.
12. Excursion in chemical, pharmaceutical, metallurgical, engineering companies
which are using the most advanced technologies and techniques.

- At least 75% attendance in seminars and active participation are required.
Lecturer assesses the level of knowledge and orientation in toxicology and
environmental regulations. Additional requirements will be determined by
the lecturer at the beginning of the course.
