- Course objectives
- Before they begin to translate, the translator needs to carry out a comprehensive analysis of the source text in order to understand and correctly interpret the text. This preparatory work is a necessary prerequisite for a successful translation. The aim of this course is to acquaint the students with the theoretical principles on which the model of translation-oriented text analysis is based. The course introduces several concepts of translation theory, and describes the role and scope of source text analysis in the translation process.The students will be presented with a detailed overview of extratextual and intratextual factors and their interaction in the text.
