Course objectives
The course continues Introduction to Italian with the aim to provide the students a deeper insight into the linguistic system of the Italian language on the background of their mother tongue. Czech language, being a synthetic language par excellence, is contrasted with Italian as a partly synthetic and partly analytical language, and with English, purely analytical language.

  • 1. Introduction: genealogical and morphological classification of Czech
    2. Czech as a synthetic language
    3. Nominal inflexion of Czech in comparison with Italian and English
    4. Verbal inflexion in Czech in comparison with Italian and English
    5. System of tenses in Czech in comparison with Italian and English
    6. Verbal mood in Czech in comparison with Italian and English
    7. Mood and modality of the sentence
    8. Synthetic character of the language on syntactic level: the predicate
    9. Non-finite verb forms and their syntactic function
    10. Word order in Czech and other factors of the information structure
    11. Passive voice in Czech, its form and function, in comparison with Italian and English
    12. Word formation in in Czech in comparison with Italian and English
