- Course objectives
- The goal of the course is to acquaint students with the principles of data communications, the standards and the specifications of computer networks. We focus on architectures of the global computer networks in the environment of the decentralized systems and security models.
- Syllabus
- 1. Network standards. TCP/IP model.
2. IEEE 802.3, Ethernet. Other local networks.
3. MAN and WAN network architectures. Frame Relay, ATM, MPLS.
4. Telecomunication networks. DSL technologies.
5. Wireless and mobile technologies.
6. Decentralization, distribution. Bridging, switching, routing.
7. Cesnet2, QoS, VoIP. Name and directory services.
8. Virtual networks.
9. Network security - firewalls, SNMP protocol, NetFlow, Syslog, WBEM, network monitoring.
