We expect basic knowledge of hardware and computer networks.
Course Enrolment Limitations
The course is offered to students of any study field.
Course objectives
The aim is to practice the work with hardware and computer networks, especially hardware diagnostics, error detection, monitoring, network diagnostics. Students will look at the typical features and technologies of various devices, identifying component information, assessing and benchmarking, component testing. We also deal with computer networks, including configuration and security procedures for various network devices.
Learning outcomes
Students will be able to:
- determine the typical features and technologies of the various devices;
- identify, analyze and compare component information;
- test components;
- design configuration and security of various network devices;
Syllabus
  • 1. Basic hardware components: motherboard, processor, memory.
  • 2. Tools needed for repair and editing.
  • 3. Commonly available software for basic diagnostics, component testing.
  • 4. Processors: recognition of processor properties, testing, overclocking, underclocking.
  • 5. Memory modules: properties, installation, latency, testing, overclocking.
  • 6. Magnetic external memories: testing, S.M.A.R.T.
  • technology 7. Power, power management technology.
  • 8. Computer networks, network elements.
  • 9. Network diagnostics, packet capture.
  • 10. Servers: Windows Server, Linux Server, installation, administration.

1. The student performs one of the randomly assigned tasks (finding a particular component according to specified criteria, performing or describing a maintenance or repair procedure, evaluating the suitability of a particular component for a given purpose, etc.).
2. Compulsory attendance at seminars min. 75%.
