- The course is offered to students of any study field.
- Course objectives
- The course focuses on conceptual database modeling and advanced database technologies such as distributed database systems and data warehousing for decision support applications. Its aim is to understand these technologies, their theoretical principles, application possibilities, design, and implementation.
- Learning outcomes
- Students will be able to:
- summarize the basic features of the conceptual modeling of database systems.
- Describe technologies related to distributed database systems and data warehouses for decision support applications.

- 1. Conceptual modeling of a database: Entity-relational model
- 2. Conceptual database modeling: semantic models and anchored modeling
- 3. Distributed database systems: architecture, data replication, data fragmentation, data allocation
- 4. Classification (levels) of information systems, OLTP and OLAP technologies
- 5. Fundamentals of data warehouse technology (DW)
- 6. DW environment, DW architecture
- 7. DW: data models, types of data schemes
- 8. DW: multidimensional views of data, its creation, and description
- 9. DW: internal data models
- 10. Recent developments in data warehouses
