Course objectives
English Language II builds upon the course English Language I and aims to further develop the students’ existing knowledge. The focus is placed on the grammatical and lexical aspects of the language and the balanced development of all four language skills (listening, reading, writing, and speaking) to enable students to communicate clearly and grammatically correctly in both oral and written forms in everyday situations at the given language level. The topics covered correspond to units three and four of the recommended literature. These topics will be supplemented with additional materials tailored to the specific needs of students, designed to deepen their knowledge of their field of study (particularly vocabulary related to multimedia, culture and the arts), as well as their understanding of English-speaking countries in Europe and around the world. The course also aims to strengthen awareness of the diversity of cultures and societies in today’s multicultural world. The course concludes with an oral examination, during which students will discuss a field-specific topic based on a professional text of their own choosing.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course, the student will be able to demonstrate: • Achievement of language level B1.2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). • Communicative competence in English at the B1.2 level, including the ability to communicate in simple, everyday situations on familiar topics and activities. • The ability to understand the main ideas of clear input related to everyday topics, as well as grasp the meaning of short, clear, and simple messages and announcements. • Reading comprehension skills, including the ability to find specific, predictable information in simple everyday materials (e.g., advertisements, brochures, etc.) and understand short personal letters. • Lexical competence, demonstrated through knowledge and use of appropriate vocabulary related to conversational topics from daily life. • Grammatical competence, demonstrated through knowledge and application of basic grammatical structures.
