The aim of the course is the ability of students to translate texts from various sources in the field of mechanical engineering and metallurgy.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student will be able to:
- navigate the field of metallurgy and mechanical engineering;
- translate professional texts from the field of metallurgy and mechanical engineering;
Syllabus
  • 1. Introduction, structure of the course, exercise types, unit 1 vocabulary 2. Steel, carbon, steel production phases, mini mill, exercises, unit 2 vocabulary 3. Physical, chemical and mechanical properties of steel, exercises, unit 3 vocabulary 4. Technological properties of steel, microstructure, measurements, analyses, exercises, unit 4 vocabulary 5. Production of pig iron, exercises, unit 5 vocabulary 6. Production of liquid steel, casting, electric furnace, exercises, unit 6 vocabulary 7. Hot rolling, cold rolling, exercises, unit 7 vocabulary 8. Annealing, exercises, unit 8 vocabulary 9. Steel coils: processing and service centers, plates, exercises, unit 9 vocabulary 10. Main industries using plates, exercises, unit 10 vocabulary 11. The use of flat carbon steel in the industry, exercises, unit 11 vocabulary 12. Final project assignment 13.
