Course objectives
The goal of the course is to acquaint students with the principles of data communications, the standards and the specifications of computer networks. We focus on architectures of the global computer networks in the environment of the decentralized systems and security models.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course the student:
- deepens knowledge in the field of concepts and architecture of computer networks,
- will know important network protocols and mechanisms,
- will know to solve issues related to network administration and configuration of network devices.
Syllabus
  • 1. Standardization of computer networks, the ISO/OSI reference model. The TCP/IP network model. Network stacks.
  • 2. Local area networks: Ethernet, wireless technologies. VLAN, STP, EtherChannel, SAN.
  • 3. Wide area networks, telecommunications, mobile networks, access networks.
  • 4. OSI Network and Transport Layer.
  • 5. OSI Application Layer, selected protocols and services.
  • 6. Decentralized and distributed systems. Routing, advanced routing.
  • 7. Security and management. Attacks, network monitoring and analysis, IDS/IPS, logging, network management, monitoring systems.
