Course objectives
In this course students shall deal with the language of advertisement, cartoons, and fiction. The aim is to see translation as a replacement of a representation of a text in one language by a representation of an equivalent text in a second language. The students will engage in translation from English to Czech.

  • 1) Translating advertisement slogans
    2) Translating cartoon captions
    3) Translating a play
    4) Translating fiction - focus on translating methods
    5) Translating fiction - focus on translating procedures

    7) Translating fiction - focus on stylistic scales
    8) Translating fiction - focus on interplay of the FSP factors 1
    9) Translating fiction - focus on interplay of the FSP factors 2
    10) Translating fiction - focus on interplay direct speech
    11) Translating fiction - focus on interplay reporting verbs
    12) Translating fiction - focus on interplay faux amis
