Course objectives
The seminar aims to present both the actual division of Italy into 20 regions and the historical areas and states that existed in the Italian territory in the past. It mentions also the Italian speaking areas outside Italy.
Syllabus
  • 1. The definition of the Italian civilisational area
    2. Augustus` Italy
    3. The break up of the Roman Empire, the new states
    4. Historical development of the indipendent states within the Italian territory
    5. The unification proces in the 19th and 20th century, centralism and authonomism, establishment of the present regions
    6. Students` presentations of chosen regions

At least 80% attendance, a paper or an essay. The course is concluded with an oral exam.
