Course objectives
Students will acquire an overview of the broadcast text information processing using Perl and and relation language Perl to CGI, SQL and web server. Exercises will focus on the most powerful tool of language namely regular expressions.

  • 1. Syntax:
    - Built-in types
    - Variable (scalar, hash, array)
    - Operators
    - Statements

    - Regular expressions
    - List Processing
    2. Fundamentals of programs:
    - Lexical structure
    - Term
    - Commands
    - Declaration
    - Subroutines
    - Built-in functions
    - Special variables
    3. Links between CGI and Perl
    4. Creating scripts
    5 Install the language and development environment ACTIVE STATE
    6. Installing and using packages from CPAN and ACTIVE STATE (freely available under the GNU)
    The practice is dedicated to installing Perl interpreter, development environment, binding language on the Web server and Web administration server in the application of Perl. Students will verify system functionality, development environment, access to extensive libraries licensed under the GNU and their installation.

Teacher's information
To obtain the credit, students must hand in a semester project. The semester project consists of a program created by students, on a theme obtained after a consultation with the lecturer, by the midway through the teaching period. The program must be functional and error free and will perform on the theme.
The exam consists of a consultation on the semester project. The evaluation of the project will focus on the overall completion, namely: the reliability of the created program, used algorithm and equipment, student's personal contribution towards the work on the theme, possibilities of further development of the program and also students' understanding of the issues and the acquired knowledge during the course.
