Course objectives

The goal is to unite the students' experience with operating systems and to extend to a very good level of user skills with a focus on Windows and Linux in the most common versions. The subject of the course is advanced administration using GUI tools, basic administration in text mode and other advanced techniques related to installation, maintenance and repair the given systems.

Syllabus

• Using MS Windows, useful files and directories.
  Windows versions and editions, Windows kernel.
  Windows configuration with GUI tools. Managing users, processes, network, devices.
  Windows Registery Database.
  Command Line in Windows, basic commands.
  Security problems in various operating systems, with focus on Windows. Malware, anti-malware software, updates role.
  Licencing. GNU Project, GNU/GPL and other open-source licences, EULA, CC.
  Using Linux, configuration with GUI tools.
  Unix systems principles. Users, processes, file systems, devices configuration.
  Linux distributions, software installation.
  Command shells in Linux, basic commands.

Teacher's information

Graduates of this course should understand Windows, and Linux, and manage tasks related to the installation, maintenance and basic repairs or modifications. Tools in the graphical environment of the system and the basics of working in text mode (Command Prompt in Windows, Linux BASH shell).
To pass the course you need to satisfy two tests (one for Windows, one for Linux), each at least 50%.
