- Course objectives
- The aim of this course is to introduce the students into the language of the media. The course uses various topics from the field of (critical) discourse analysis as the theoretical introduction into the subject matter. The seminars are devoted to specific analyses and interpretations of language usage in the massmedia on multiple levels, i.e. from the phonetic to the pragmatic level. The analyzed material mainly consists of newspaper texts and advertisements. Recommended literature: Fairclough, N.: Analysing Discourse, London: Routledge, 2003.
