Course objectives
The course is intended as linguistic characteristics of English compared to Czech in the field of functional onomatology. Students will learn about the characteristic features of Czech and English lexis and word-building, about the various types of dictionaries, especially about the existing English-Czech and Czech-English dictionaries, and with the issues of a dictionary entry.

    6. Derivation by using suffixes
    7. Derivation by using prefixes
    8. Conversion
    9. Acronyms, abbreviations, clipping, blends
    10. Multi-word expressions
    11. Synonyms, antonyms, homonyms
    12. Varieties in contemporary English as regards lexis
