Course objectives
The cycle of lectures and seminars is dedicated to an overview of the 19th century Italian literature. The lectures aim to characterize the period from a literary, historical and social point of view and to present its main authors. The seminars consist in analyses of a series of literary works.
Learning outcomes
The students have a general knowledge of the main literary trends of the 19th century, they can place the most important Italian authors and their works in the literary and historical context, thay can subject a literary text to a formal and content analysis.

  • 3. I classici del romanticismo italiano: Giacomo Leopardi
  • 4. La prosa nel periodo del Risorgimento: l’opera di Ippolito Nievo
  • 5. La poesia nel periodo del Risorgimento: la lirica patriottica e la poesia dialettale
  • 6. Il secondo Ottocento: contesto storico e culturale. La scapigliatura e il romanzo verista di Verga
  • 7. La poesia dell’ultimo Ottocento. Le correnti del decadentismo italiano: Gabriele D’Annunzio
  • 8. Le correnti del decadentismo italiano: Giovanni Pascoli
