Course objectives
To acquire the basics of the quantum chromodynamics, the current theory of strong interaction.
Syllabus
  • Lie groups and algebras. Symmetries and interactions. Global and local Abelian gauge invariance. Global and local non-Abelian gauge invariance. Quarks, flavor families, color SU(3) group, gluons. The Lagrangian of quantum chromodynamics (QCD). Feynman rules for vertices and propagators of QCD. One-loop QCD corrections. Vertex function, quark self-energy. Mass and field renormalization. Virtual and real gluon contributions. Role of the Faddeev-Popov ghosts (just info without derivation). Running coupling constant. Asymptotic freedom. Nonperturbative methods in QCD. Confinement of quarks.
