Course objectives
The aim of the course is to make students familiar with an introduction to bitmap graphics. The course should provide the necessary amount of information to work with digital cameras and other imaging systems. Students will learn to understand the importance of light and color, and teaches him to work with them. The aim is to understand the whole process of the image to its interpretation of the monitor or printer.
Syllabus
  • Digital Photography: image resolution by pixels, DPI, light, exposure, shutter, aperture, shutter speed, ISO sensitivity chip compression.
    Scanning: the image resolution by pixels, DPI, optical density, color models CMYK, RGB, principles of correct scanning, histogram and curves, restaurant image using digital ICE, selecting the proper size of the scanned image.
    Working in Adobe Photoshop and Gimp: open, save, export, convert, resize, image transformation, alignment linearity, curves, histograms, brightness and contrast, color balance, channel mixing, working with channels, layers and selections and clipping paths masks, work with text, basic filters.
    Advanced photo editing technique: coloring and bleaching, replacement of color, retouch, merge the images, special effects.
    Procedures for converting RGB to CMYK conversion, color shifts when printing and their elimination. Composing different exposures of identical scene into a single image with extended tonal range, HDR format and 32bit color depth. Handling color, selective color shifts and replacing specific colors. Procedures for local video editing by using selections and alpha channels. Introduction to Colour Management, its importance for the unification of image colors, depending on the nature of characteristics of devices and work in environments of software applications, color schemes and color gamut. Practical usage of ICC profiles, calibration equipment. Conversions between different color spaces and profiles. Creating the calibration profiles of a digital camera.
