- Course objectives
- The course is focused on the systematic and comprehensive development of language competence and on the practical application of communicative skills for intermediate English speakers. Students will consolidate and deepen their knowledge of English grammar, expand their vocabulary and practice pronunciation. Emphasis will be placed on listening and speaking. Classes will be based on lessons 1-4 of the English File Pre-Intermediate 3rd Edition textbook.
- Learning outcomes
- After completing the course, the student will have min. at A1 level, the student will be able to: expand his/her vocabulary; consolidate and deepen the knowledge of English grammar; improve his/her pronunciation;
- Syllabus
- 1. Word order in questions. Common verb phrases, spelling and numbers. Vowel sounds, the alphabet. 2. Present simple. Describing people, appearance and personality. Final -s/-es. 3. Present continuous. Clothes. Prepositions of place. Practical English (hotel problems). 4. Past simple (regular and irregular verbs). Holidays. 5. Past continuous. Prepositions of time and place (at, in, on). Sentence stress. 6. Time sequence and connectors. Verb phrases. Word stress. 7. Be going to (plans and predictions). Airports. Sentence stress and fast speech. 8. Present continuous (future arrangements). Verb + prepositions. Sounding friendly. 9. Defining relative clauses. Expressions for paraphrasing. Pronunciation in a dictionary. 10. Present perfect + yet, just, already. House work. Make or do? 11. Present perfect vs past simple. Shopping. 12. Someting, anything, nothing, etc. Adjectives ending –ed and –ing. 13. Revise and check 1-4.
