Course objectives
The course objective is to define the basic concepts, summarize the findings of dental disciplines (morphology, teeth embryology, introduction to dentistry) and explain professional stomatological terminology.
Learning outcomes
Professional Knowledge: Students can define basic concepts and are well versed in both basic knowledge and new findings of the dental disciplines mentioned. Students can use expert dentistry terminology.
Professional Skills: Students can focus the information on the issues of individual dentistry disciplines.
General Qualification: Students can use the acquired knowledge, together with knowledge of other specialized courses, practical instruction and subsequently in practice. Based on an individual treatment plan prepared by the dentist, they can devise an individual dental hygiene treatment plan and perform conservative non-surgical initial, maintenance and supportive therapy based on it.
Competences: Students are able to use their acquired knowledge in practice. They can explain the problem to the patient and acquaint them with possible procedures of solution. Students can inform the patient about the possibilities of prevention in the field of oral health. They can find relevant information about the latest procedures and can use them in practice.
Syllabus
  • Lectures:
  • 1. Anatomy and histology of the tooth, dental tissue and the periodontium.
  • 2. Embryology of the tooth.
  • 3. Description of dentition, marking of teeth, morphology of individual teeth, permanent and temporary dentition.
  • 4. Development of the face, oral cavity, jaws, dentition, development of hard dental tissues and their mineralization, cutting teeth.
  • 5. Tooth decay, etiology, course, symptoms, diagnosis, categorization, conservative therapy of caries, materials used in conservative dentistry. Non-cariogenic hard dental tissue defects.
  • 6. Conditions damaging the dental marrow, categorization and diagnosis of pathologies of pulp and periradicular tissues, therapeutic options and procedures of endodontic treatment and its complications. Differential diagnosis of pain in the orofacial region.
  • Seminars:
  • 1. Peculiarities of the treatment of a child patient, diagnosis, prevention and therapy of oral diseases in children, especially caries, periodontal disease and injuries of teeth and jaws. Emphasis on the prevention of these and other diseases.
  • 2. Introduction to dentistry.
  • 3. Prosthetic defects, importance and categorization of prostheses, planning of prosthetic treatment and examination of the patient before prosthetic treatment, care of prostheses.

Assessment methods
Credit requirements: 90% attendance at the seminars (students who could not attend compulsory instruction for serious reasons will be assigned an alternative way of fulfilling their study requirements).
Passing a credit test requires 80% success rate.
