Course objectives
The course objective is to acquaint students with the operation of the medical facility, hygiene requirements, and instrumentation. Students are familiarized with information leading to independent work in the dental hygienist’s office. They are provided with knowledge and skills for the work of a dental hygienist. Student learn technological procedures and instruments needed to perform the work of dental hygienist
Learning outcomes
Professional Knowledge: Students know the legal standards of operation of the medical facility, the hygienic and safety regime of work in the dental hygienist’s office. Students have knowledge about the care and maintenance of tools and equipment in the dental hygienist's office.
Professional Skills: Student manage to independently ensure the safe operation of the dental hygienist’s office, adhere to the hygienic regime, navigate new technologies and independently solves common operational problems. Students can recognize and use basic instrumentation for dental hygienist work. Students know the principles of operation of the dental hygienist office.
General Qualification: Student are well versed in legal norms and apply the acquired knowledge to the normal operation of the dental hygienist's office. Students can recognize and name tools and devices in the dental hygienist’s office.
Competences: Students can use the equipment of the office safely, perform maintenance of the devices, and solve technical problems as they arise. They can compile operating rules and hygienic regime of the office. Students will be able to practice daily care of equipment and instruments in the dental hygienist’s office.

  • 1. 1-3 Technical and substantive requirements of healthcare facilities equipment.
  • 2. 4-6 Instrumentation - principle of operation, safe operation, maintenance.
  • 3. 7-9 Occupational safety. Rules of operation. Hygienic regime.
  • 4. 10-12 Disinfection a sterilization.
  • 5. 13-15 Examination tools.
  • 6. 16-18 Extraction tools.
  • 7. Surgical tools. Preparation tools.
  • 8. Endodontic instruments. Periodontological instruments.
  • 9. Tools for removing tartar.
  • 10. 18-21 Tray system.

80% attendance at the training (students who could not attend compulsory instruction for serious reasons will be assigned an alternative way of fulfilling their study requirements).
Credit requirements: preparing the operating rules of the dental practice and presentation of a semesteral project on the specified topic
