Course objectives
The course objective is to introduce to the position of this discipline among other disciplines in medical practice. The emphasis is placed on the analysis of plasma proteins, carbohydrates, lipids and the resulting metabolic disorders of the human body. The course describes briefly the basic parameters of laboratory determinations and also the basis of clinical practice with the aim of understanding basic metabolic relationships between the two sectors and the proper interpretation of laboratory results. Having completed the course, students will focus on the possibilities of laboratory analyses of individual compartments of the human body, these however do not capture the entire content of clinical biochemistry but only selected chapters dealing with the most important and most tested analytes in clinical laboratory practice.
Learning outcomes
Professional Knowledge: Students are familiarized with the basic biochemical processes occurring within the human body and can reproduce these findings.
Professional Skills: Students can use a correctly chosen method of sampling techniques of biological material, to the extent that it is also possible to perform basic analysis of the extracted material.
General Qualification: Students are able to explain and choose the correct method of sampling techniques for the individual patient in accordance with the clinician’s requirements.
Competences: Students are able to provide clients and their relatives information regarding this field in an appropriate form in terms of their competencies.
