Course objectives
The aim of the course is to provide students with theoretical and practical basic knowledge about project management, its content and scope. The discussion will focus on the use of project management techniques, methods and tools in practice. Students will learn how to effectively assign, plan, manage, complete and evaluate a project using modern information and communication technologies. They will acquire skill-sets for all roles in the project team, they will learn not only to identify possible problematic points in project management, but to solve them at any stage of project creation and implementation.
Learning outcomes
Professional knowledge:
Having completed the course, students can explain basic knowledge and skills in project management and can explain basic concepts of project creation. They have a general awareness and can work at all stages of working with the project in the available software. They can use programmes in the pre-project preparation process, the project planning process, the financial management process, the risk management process, and in the implementation and completion of the project. They can perform research of available grant titles and elaborate a custom project on a specified topic.

Professional skills:
Using the expertise of the course, students are able to design and prepare a model project on the basis of carrying out a research of available grant titles. They can actively present their own views or the opinions of their team. They can use ICT for organizational, presentational and analytical work in the elaboration of project application.

General qualification:
Students can independently coordinate their activities with other team members and be responsible for the solution. They can make decisions independently and responsibly in the elaboration of projects at all stages and use ICT. They can clearly and convincingly defend their work.
Syllabus
  • 1. Introduction to the issues of project creation and management, application possibilities and position in the system of sciences. Overview of study literature and information resources. Work with electronic information sources available from the university library.
  • 2. Project – basic terminology, what is a project, its SMART objectives, triple imperative of projects, project organizational structure, project life cycle and project phase.
  • 3. Project management and software support for project management.
  • 4. Pre-project preparation. SWOT analysis according to the chosen pillars of sustainable development of the area (economic pillar, social pillar and environmental pillar).
  • 5. Project planning process, appropriate organizational structure, activity breakdown, schedule, scheduling, and resource allocation. Software support in the planning process.
  • 6. Project team. A brief overview of existing trends in the areas of project management of human resources. Motivating people. Communication
  • 7. Financial management of the project - project budget.
  • 8. Management of project risks. Working with risks throughout the life cycle of the project.
  • 9. Implementation and completion of the project Various concepts of monitoring and evaluation of the project in the implementation phase. Software support for the implementation and completion of the project.
  • 10–13. Searching for grant titles and preparation of a sample project.
