Course objectives
The course objective is to acquaint students with digital technology in special education with a focus on the use of touch technology (tablets, iPads), provide them theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the use of tablets as a natural part of education in the area of individual support for pupils with special educational needs on the basis of supporting measures. Students will fully acquire the issues of ICT in education of pupils with special educational needs. Students will be acquainted with the creation of digital learning materials and they will be able to work actively with the available applications.
Learning outcomes
Professional knowledge:
- students know the basic concepts from the area of ICT, tablets and iPads
- students know the basic possibilities of touch technology in teaching and in the area of individual support
- students know the possibilities of using special hardware input and output components
Professional skills:
- students have acquired the basic approaches and principles of working with technologies in education and in individual support
- students have practical skills from the area of ICT, tablets and iPads
General qualification:
- students can use theoretical knowledge to educate pupils with special educational needs
- students can independently create digital learning materials
- students can independently search for special applications
Syllabus
  • 1. The use of ICT when teaching pupils with special needs.
  • 2. Special hardware (input and output devices, ergonomic aids).
  • 3. Special software in the education of pupils with special educational needs.
  • 4. Creation of digital teaching materials.
  • 5. Applications aimed at developing communication skills.
  • 6. Applications focused on the development of alternative and augmentative communication.
  • 7. Types of touch technologies applicable in education - learning process.
  • 8. iPad and other touch devices, the basic control functions.
  • 9. Use of iPads for individuals with special educational needs in the area of individual support.
  • 10. Use of touch technologies in conventional instruction.
  • 11. Active work with multimedia touch technology and applications.
  • 12. Revision of the curriculum.

Assessment methods
Creation of digital learning materials intended for direct work with pupils with special educational needs, useing multimedia touch technologies. Submission of Digital Teaching Material portfolio and its presentation are requirements for signing up for the didactic test. The didactic test consists of questions which are based on the course study material. The didactic test focuses on theoretical knowledge of key concepts related to both ICT and the ability to apply theoretical knowledge in teaching practice. Credit is awarded based on the didactic test results.

Teacher's information
Personal contact in teaching, consulting hours. During continuous study, the student uses the study support and processes selected correspondence tasks. Here he will also demonstrate knowledge of compulsory literature and contact teaching lectures. The student will be able to continuously consult individually studied topics of the subject through e-mail, individual or group consultations.
