Course objectives
Students will become familiar with art-therapeutic approaches in the context of contemporary art therapy currents. Furthermore, students will be introduced to art therapy techniques that enable a deeper understanding of the content of creation, oneself and understanding of other people. The aim of the course is to guide students: to a deeper understanding of the basics of art therapy, which are necessary for planning, implementing and reflecting on art therapy activities; to understand the theoretical background from the issues of art therapy and psychotherapy, artistic expression, art techniques and art procedures; to a unique and distinctive artistic expression, which is reflected, for example, in signs and symbols, artistic expression, verbalization, image and movement; to reflect on the creative process; to the so-called "reading of images" and adequate interpretation of the resulting artefacts. As part of the exercise, students will try out expressive and art-therapeutic activities, which are used in practice as tools for getting to know and influencing the client's psyche. During the exercise, art therapy activities with an interdisciplinary character will be presented, which help influence the client's personality changes (or alleviate or prevent inadequate psychological manifestations). Through the creative process, students will gain a better understanding of current art-therapeutic tendencies that are applicable both in social work (e.g. risk groups; inpatients; medical facilities; social services for people with physical disabilities, families, the elderly and chronically ill) as well as in school facilities (i.e. school groups; educational and accommodation facilities; school facilities for institutional education, protective education and preventive educational care).
