- Course objectives
- The aim of the course Health and Disease is to introduce the determinants which can lead to diseases and conduct them to understanding of man as integrated being in social system. The course should present the issue of diseases and disorders both physical and mental as well as handicap of sense organs and according individual groups of handicaps show peculiarities of social position of handicapped. The course should contribute to consolidation of theoretical knowledge in order that the students can use it in concrete situations during the practice in social work. The lectures will be aimed at issue of stress and life cycle as factors which influence perceived feeling of health. The students will be introduced what essential change the disease means in life of individual, they will comprehend the new role of ill and position in family, in society, in medical institutions. The course deals also with communication between medical staff and patient, roles, expectations which during the process of communication appear. The course is intended for Department of Public Administration and Regional Policy students only.
