- Course objectives
- The course teaches students basic Latin grammar and specialized medical terminology in extent which is prerequisite for the study of other specialized subjects. Learning outcomes: Professional knowledge: The student is able to explain basics of Latin grammar. Professional skills: The student is able to apply Latin terminology in context in a suitable way. General ability: Student understands the rules of Latin grammar and uses Latin terminology in theoretical lessons as well as in practical lessons. Competence: The student uses Latin terminology with comprehension in both theoretical and practical lessons. The student improves their knowledge of Latin in the course of all their studies.
- Syllabus
- 1. Introduction to Latin, phonology, morphology, prepositions. Pronunciation, stress, length, reading Latin text.
2. Nouns First and Second declension.
3. Adjectives First and Second declension.
4. Verbs I.-IV. conjugation.
5. Nouns Third declension - imparisyllabic. Nouns Third declension - parisyllabic. Nouns Third declension - addition - specialized terminology.
6. Revision on Third declension - particularities of this declension pattern.
7. Vocabulary, specialized terminology.
8. Anatomical vocabulary and nomenclature.
9. Adjectives Third declension - with one ending. Third declension adjectives with two and three endings.
10. Greek nouns First, Second, Third declension.
11. Adjective comparison - exceptions, irregular and incomplete comparison.
12. Adverbs.
13. Numerals - their use in Latin terminology.
14. Latin and Greek prefixes.
15. Latin and Greek suffixes.
16. Diagnosis, prescription, abbreviations.
17. Overall revision.
