- Course objectives
- The subject introduces issue of work in multicultural environment and international organizations and processes used in the field of intercultural management. The subject should explain rules and processes of effective manager work in multicultural environment. The concept of processes of globalisation and internationalization is way-out. The multicultural involvement and perspective of management are stressed and concept of intercultural management as specific manager discipline is presented. The concept of national culture, national identity and mentality are explained and principal elements of national cultural, cultural dimension and national cultural diversity are described. Hall´s, Hofstede´s and Trompenaars´s models of cultural dimensions and some other models are presented. The attention is also paid to important differences between national cultures for managers and specialists working in international and multicultural environment, issue of cultural diversity, cognition and respecting of other national cultures, confrontations with foreign culture. The effective strategy of coping with mental stress when working abroad and in multicultural environment, intercultural communication, its effectiveness and barriers are presented. The course includes also issue of usage of ethics and etiquette in intercultural management, management of international operations and operational management in multicultural environment. The characteristics of selected national cultures are also presented.

- The course can also be completed outside the examination period.
- Teacher's information
- The students are supposed to participate actively in group discussions. The knowledge of fundamental principles of theory of management is welcome pre-requisite. The pre-exam credit will be obtained after writing seminar paper in extent 3-5 pages. The use of student's own experience from encounter with different national culture is valued positively.
