Course objectives
The aim of the course: The aim of the Macroeconomics course is to familiarize the students with the macroeconomics, basic economic categories and the relationships between them. The goal of the subject is to prepare students of the Institute of Public Administration and Regional Policy for the study of other economic subjects related to the acquisition of basic theoretical knowledge in the field of macroeconomics. It deals primarily with the issue of the measurement of macro-economic aggregates, the functioning of the macro-economic models, the role of money in the economy, factors influencing the economic growth and business cycle, and last but not least also with various approaches to the issue of economic policy. All the efforts of the lecturers and seminar instructors will focus both on the deepening of the economic considerations of the students of the Institute of Public Administration and Regional Policy as well as on equipping them with the specific tools used in this discipline. Study Outcomes: Professional Knowledge: The student will be able to define the basic concepts from the field of macroeconomics, will be able to describe the relationship between macro-economy and other economic disciplines. They will be able to evaluate the macroeconomic goals, the way to achieve them, and the effectiveness of the various instruments of stability policy, the functioning of basic connections and elements within aggregate markets. They will also become acquainted with the role price stability, labour market and economic growth play in the assessment of the macroeconomic development. Special emphasis will also be placed on economic cycles. Professional Skills: The students will be able to describe and apply the various macroeconomic models and on the basis of this application will subsequently be able to evaluate the macroeconomic development of a country and the effectiveness of the functioning of its economic policy. They will be able to distinguish between the basic tools and methods, with whose help theoretical science describes the behaviour of the economy as a whole and the principles for the achievement of market equilibrium. General Qualification: Students acquire knowledge from the field of macroeconomics. The acquired knowledge will form the basis for further study of economically focused courses taught in the bachelor branch of Public Administration and Social Policy. From a practical point of view, students will be able to independently and responsibly assess the effectiveness of economic policy, evaluate the development of the GDP, the price level and the labour market and the effectiveness of the use of the individual macroeconomic tools. Competences: Students are able to define the term macroeconomics and describe macroeconomic relations and connections which are typical for aggregated markets and which are directly linked to the market equilibrium. They are able to distinguish between basic macroeconomic models and the basic types of economic policy. They know the role of the state in the economy in macroeconomic terms and can describe the fundamental problems associated with measuring the main macroeconomic aggregates. Within their competences, they are able to recognize and apply the various tools of macroeconomics.
