Course objectives
The aim of this course is to acquaint the students with practical training. The students are distributed in workplaces (departments/wards) in the fields of primary, secondary and tertiary care according to the study plan (see the table - Practical Training Schedule). Practical training lessons are supervised by clinical practice mentors in cooperation with expert supervisors of clinical practice at the Nursing Institute. (Each practical training supervisor/teacher of nursing teaches only the fields of practical training, in which he/she is a professional and he/she is responsible for clinical supervision during training of students.) Clinical departments (workplaces, wards) for teaching and training of students are chosen on the basis of specified standards. The course acquaints students with issues of individual clinical departments (wards) and workplaces. Within the practical training, the student does the training in standard nursing wards/departments and intensive care units as well as special nursing units. The student shall learn how to classify differences in nursing for patients suffering from various illnesses, handicapped patients and terminal patients. Having finished the course, the student shall be able to work in individual clinical departments by means of the nursing process method under mentor's supervision. Learning outcomes: Professional knowledge: The student shall be able to apply theoretical knowledge from professional courses in practice. Professional skills: The student is able to diagnose nursing problems, to form nursing diagnoses according to NANDA taxonomy, to compile a nursing care plan, to choose appropriate nursing interventions and to assess gained results. They can observe general principles of nursing (prevention of nosocominal (hospital) infections, personal hygiene, prevention of complications of an extended stay in bed). They are able to provide professional nursing care adequately (administration of drugs, care of defecation, fluid balance monitoring, care of breathing, administration of food, etc.). General ability: The students are able to provide qualified nursing care to patients with specific diseases based on the latest knowledge. They deepen and enhance these skills in clinical practice.
