- Course objectives
- The course is designed to introduce the theory of minorities and their status in society to students. The lectures and tutorials lighten more closely basic concepts of ethnic theory as well as minority groups in the context of results of the most current researches. They will, on specific examples, more closely characterize the origin, history and specifics of the most important minorities in the Czech republic according to nationalities, religion, sex, age, sexual behaviour, health handicap, political, social and cultural speciality, with focus on characteristics of main ethnic groups in the Czech republic (Slovaks, Polish, Germans, Romani) and general outline of minorities in Europe.

- Two written papers 1) review of a new book, important article or web page which relates to issue of minorities (3 pages) with the aim to verify the ability of independent searching and processing of information including the analysis 2) essay or scientific article aimed at concrete topic from the lecture content, especially to current issue of ethnic groups and other minorities in the Czech republic (5 pages) with the aim to verify the ability of generalisation of a concrete issue and processing of factographical and methodological correctly analytic or systematic-analytic scientific article. The exam includes also written test aimed at verification of theoretical and practical knowledge.
