Course objectives
The course aims to provide students with application of pathology in practice; its significance at making a diagnosis from biopsies, or at evaluating the progress of illness, medical treatment success, eventually at giving a prognosis. During necropsy examination complex evaluation of correctness of clinical diagnosis and treatment depending on the quality of examination methods. Pathology creates theoretical base for study of other clinical disciplines. In the general chapters, the course describes basic pathological processes in cells and tissues, the individual specific terms which are later used for special pathology lectures which describe damage and pathological conditions in particular organs or their systems. Some basic terms from clinical practice are also used during the course. After finishing the course, the student will be well informed about general pathology (death of an organism, causes of illness, regressive and metabolic changes, division, significance and progress of inflammations, progressive changes, basics of tumour diseases), as well as about special pathology (with focus on basic function of each system and following disorders and the most significant pathological units). Learning outcomes: Professional knowledge: The student is able to describe and explain causes of disease onset, its progress, microscopic and macroscopic image in connection with clinical manifestations. Professional skills: The student is able to correctly label and deal with biopsy material taken by doctor. General ability: The student understands knowledge of the field, deduces connections; express themselves independently, coherently, logically and professionally, use specific terminology.
