Course objectives
The course is aimed at acquainting the students with fundamentals of social care as a part of social services. The course is conceived as practical course. It extends the knowledge from organization and provision of social care and assistance, which is closely related to nursing care particularly in primary and tertiary medical care. The contents are focused on the concept of social care and its elements with respect to individuals, families, communities and groups. It will familiarize the students with the organizational structure of social services and with the applicable legislation.

  • 1. Social work, basic terminology - definition of social work.
    2. Forms and types of social services.
    3. Individual and group social work.
    4. Social work in community.
    5. Social work concepts, development in the Czech Republic.
    6. Act 108/2006 Coll., on social services, as amended by later regulations.
    7. Further current legislation related to application of social services.
    8. Current possibilities of social care by individual handicaps.
    9. Position of social worker in multidisciplinary team.

Teacher's information
The contact instruction is implemented through the system of tutorials on selected topics. The combined part of the studies is implemented in the e-learning course environment at e-portal http://elearning.fvp.slu.cz/. The students have study supports including correspondence tasks available for instruction there. The course is concluded by a credit in written or oral form; within it, the student will demonstrate knowledge of basic and recommended reading and be able to discuss the processed correspondence tasks. The student will have the opportunity to consult individually the topics studied, through individual or group tutorials or electronic mail.
80% active attendance at practical sessions (the teacher can specify substitutive way of fulfilment of study duties to students who cannot attend compulsory lessons for serious reasons)
Presentation of a selected topic in a seminar practical session within the students' case conference.
Defence and analysis of a case study within the students' case conference.
