- Course objectives
- The course is aimed at acquainting the students with findings and skills in the field of nursing care for acute and chronic wounds. Having finished the course, the students will have good grasp of the issues of wound care; they will be able to provide nursing care for specific clinical conditions.
- Syllabus
- 1. General information on wounds, types of wounds, mechanisms of origination. Healing process. Nutrition requirements. Nursing estimation and nursing diagnoses of wound care. Local therapeutic measures, general therapeutic measures.
2. Dry wound care. Wet wound care. Requirements on dressing materials by wound types.
3. Nursing care for clients with surgical wound. Nursing care for clients with acute traumatic defect.
4. Infections in wounds. Types of infections, care for infected wounds.
5. Pressure ulcer, mechanism of pressure ulcer development, prevention, early detection. Pressure ulcer stages and their gravity to human organism.
6. Nursing care for clients with pressure ulcers by disease stages.
7. Diabetic leg syndrome, predispositions for disease development, preventive measures, early detection.
8. Nursing care for clients with diabetic leg by disease stages. Varicose ulcer, mechanism of development, preventive measures, predispositions for the disease, early detection of the defect.
9. Nursing care for clients with varicose ulcers by disease stages.

Information on the extent and intensity of the course: Seminář 3 HOD/SEM. - Teacher's information
- The contact instruction is implemented through the system of tutorials on selected topics. The combined part of the studies is implemented in the e-learning course environment at e-portal http://elearning.fvp.slu.cz/. The students have study supports including correspondence tasks available for instruction there. The course is concluded by a credit in written or oral form; within it, the student will demonstrate knowledge of basic and recommended reading and be able to discuss the processed correspondence tasks. The student will have the opportunity to consult individually the topics studied, through individual or group tutorials or electronic mail.
Credit requirements: Credit test and demonstration of wound caring skills. Seminar essay on an assigned topic in the extent of 3 A4 pages.
