Course objectives
The aim of the course is to understand the basic terms and concepts from the theory of communication. Based on the strategy of social conduct and knowledge of interpersonal communication. The students are familiar with the specific procedures of communication workers in the helping professions. Attention is also paid to the actual communication skills and conflict prevention, and aggression in interpersonal relationships. At the same time is the emphasis placed on the use of the techniques of active listening and empathy in the management consultancy interview. The aim is to develop a theoretical framework for the practical use of communication strategies in social communication. An integral part of the course are practical seminars.
Syllabus
  • 1. Social interaction (social perception, interaction, communication).
    2. Basic communication models.
    3. Verbal communication (its meaning, speech content, paralingism, communication difficulties, communication techniques). Technique of spoken word.
    4. Nonverbal communication. The body language. Picture.
    5. Active listening.
    6. Empathy. Emotive Intelligence.
    7. Conflict and aggression in communication.
    8. Interviews. Consultation interview.
    9. Group communication.
    10. Interpersonal conflicts.
    11. Personality typology of a worker in assisting professions. Specifics of communication in assisting professions. Burnout syndrome and syndrome contributing.
    12. Communication and problem client. Type of users.

Teacher's information
In the course of the seminar work students will analyze their communication style, analyze the communication process and outline the specifics of communication with the selected target group. The course is finished by a written credit test.
