Course objectives
The course is aimed at acquainting the students with operation principles of the most important medical devices in nursing as well as with the related legislative regulations. The course describes biophysical and technical principles used for medical devices in nursing practice. Having finished the course, the students will know the principles of technical processing of physiological values and signals and the options of their displaying.

  • 1. Legislation, classification and technical standardization of medical devices.
    2. Bio-electric signals, signal processing. Issues of sensor-patient connection.
    3. Instrumentation in surgery.
    4. Instrumentation in cardiology.
    5. Instrumentation in neurology and audiology.
    6. Instrumentation in radiology.
    7. Instrumentation in rehabilitation.
    8. Instrumentation for anaesthesia and resuscitation.
    9. Artificial organs.

Teacher's information
The contact instruction is implemented through the system of tutorials on selected topics. The combined part of the studies is implemented in the e-learning course environment at e-portal http://elearning.fvp.slu.cz/. The students have study supports including correspondence tasks available for instruction there. The course is concluded by a credit in written or oral form; within it, the student will demonstrate knowledge of basic and recommended reading and be able to discuss the processed correspondence tasks. The student will have the opportunity to consult individually the topics studied, through individual or group tutorials or electronic mail.
Credit requirements: The teacher cam specify substitutive way of fulfilment of study duties to students who cannot attend compulsory lessons for serious reasons in the extent of missed lessons.
Written credit test with cut-off score: 80 %.
