Course objectives
The course is intended to the field of mental disorders. The aim of the course is to apprise students with the concept of normality of personality. In the case of pathology it characterizes the symptoms of various disorders of mental functions. It also briefly describes kinds of disease and ways how to treat people with mental disease. Students will be introduced to treatment options and resocialisation. The aim is also to help decrease the stigmatization of people with mental disease which often persists in public opinion and complicates the treatment of mental disorders. Even social workers can significantly help to people with mental illness return to normal life. Students are provided by information about advanced methods of working with the target group, they are led to the obtaining of knowledge about the issue of psychopathology, which can be used in working with clients in social work. The course is aimed to contribute to the wider possibilities of advanced consulting work with target groups.

  • 1st Introduction to subject. Normality. The causes of mental diseases - genetic, prenatal, perinatal, postnatal. Approaches to the mentally disabled.
    2nd Classification systems of mental and behavioral disorders. - Symptom, syndrome, disorder, disease
    3rd General Part I - Disorders of perception and attention
    4th General Part-II - Disorders of thought, memory, emotion and action
    5th Organic mental disorders
    6th Neurotic disorders
    7th Psychosis
    8th Mental disorders due to psychoactive substance
    9th Affective disorders
    10th Suicidal behavior
    11th Personality disorders
    12th Options of helping people with mental diseases
