- Course objectives
- The aim of the course Communication with Seniors I. is to expand knowledge and deepen students' communication skills in the field of social communication and communication strategies with a focus on seniors. The lecture series deals with the personal and professional preconditions of the helping worker for cooperation and especially communication with seniors. Furthermore, the lectures focus on individual forms of communication, analysis of the communication process, the needs of the senior in the field of communication, obstacles and noises in communication with the senior. Great attention is paid to overcoming obstacles in impaired communication skills of seniors (due to sensory disabilities, dementia, in demanding types of seniors, etc.), techniques of active listening and conducting a conversation with a senior. Theoretical knowledge is combined with practical skills.
- Learning outcomes
- After completing the course, the student will be able to:
- identify and take into account the specifics of communication with seniors in communication;
- analyze the needs of seniors in communication;
- analyze the communication process with the senior and identify possible obstacles;
- preventive conflicts with the elderly;
- appropriately overcome the communication difficulties of a senior with impaired communication skills;
- use active listening techniques;
- conduct an empathic interview with a senior; - Syllabus

3. Communication process, obstacles and noise in communication with the senior.
4. Specifics of communication with seniors.

6. Overcoming obstacles to impaired communication ability of the senior (speech disorders, hearing loss and other sensory impairment, dementia, etc.)
7. Principles of senior communication and effective communication strategies.
8. Active listening while talking to the senior, creating an environment of trust.
9. Lead the interview with the senior.

Information on the extent and intensity of the course: Přednáška 8 HOD/SEM. - Teacher's information
- As part of the written seminar work, the student will process according to the instructions of the teacher all questions (20), which are located after each chapter in the study material: Quisová, S. - Communication with seniors I. 2019. Questions will be processed with the help of literature. 2 sources, ie 1 compulsory and 1 recommended book. The student submits the written work to the IS SU submission office within the set deadline. Any comments must be incorporated by the student into the correction and submitted within the specified deadline. After recognition of the work, the student can participate in the oral examination. Work that does not meet the requirements will not be recognized and the student cannot participate in the oral examination. The course ends with an oral exam, which takes place in the presence of min. 2 students, the student draws 3 questions (from the study material and other recommended literature), which they then answer.
