Course objectives
The aim of the course is to deepen communication skills in English language (written and spoken), to introduce students to expanding medical terminology and other situations that may arise in the midwifery profession. The course includes practice in basic language skills (primarily speaking, then listening, reading, and translating) with an emphasis on comprehension of professional text and the ability to communicate in situations specific to the health care profession. Upon completion of the course, the student will be familiar with common medical terms, medical documentation, and be able to respond in a variety of situations related to the profession.
Syllabus
  • 1. Gynaecological examination of pregnant women (pregnant abdomen examination, other)
    2. Intrauterine development and imagining (medical technique, imagining in pregnancy)
    3. Childbirth (admission, communication during labour, postpartum)
    4., First Aid for new born (and children), examination of newborn
    5. The Sixth Ward (room-in, mother and child care, basic observations)
    6. Children care (education, breastfeeding, children medical examinations)
    7. Multicultural approach (ethnic specifics in patient admission, hospitalization)
    8. Reflection on healthy lifestyle
    9. Summarizing lesson (interactive training of situations)

Assessment methods
The course is completed by credit, which will take the form of a seminar presentation - a given medical topic prepared in the form of a PPT or a frontal/interactive oral presentation. The condition for the award of credit is at least 80% attendance at the class.
