Course objectives
The subject acquaints students with social and legal protection of children and youth, its historical context and contemporary world directions. Student has to learn how to monitor this issue in the context of the family and the wider social context of the family, diagnosing the problem. Another integral part is the ability of family assessment to meet the needs of the child.

  • 1. importance of happy childhood, family education
    2. the beginnings of child protection and childhood till the modern age
    3. industrial revolution, Enlightenment, help and protection of children
    4. First republic, communism
    5. Current paradigms of social and legal protection of children and their impact on practice
    6. change of Czech paradigm and instruments of SPOD social and legal protection of children
    7. Practice in the surrounding states - a comparative view of contemporary Europe
    8. Instruments of social and legal protection of children in the Czech republic
    9. Evaluation of PMD of child and family, practical experience with record
    10. Case conferences and related services for persons in custody and carers
    11. Dilemma of foster care
    12. Transformation of residential facilities for children and youth
