- Course objectives
- The subject aims at providing basic orientation in the area of general psychology, explaining key terms applied in the description of particular mental and emotional processes, states and properties of humans. Simultaneously, attention is paid to determination of the human psyche and related theories of personality. Students will get familiar with the history of general psychology and basic methods used in psychology. The objective of these efforts is to produce a theoretical and practical foundation for further study of applied disciplines in psychology and pedagogy.

- 1. Psychology (subject matter and objectives, disciplines, position of psychology amidst other sciences, key terminology, methods of psychological research, scientific knowledge versus myth).
2. Major psychological schools of thought and their approach to the human.
3. Cognitive aspects of personality (general characteristics).
4. Sensation and perception, imagination and fantasy, attention, memory.
5. Thinking (basic forms and types of thinking/reasoning, cognitive operations, factors influencing problem-solving). Thinking and speech.
6. Intelligence (definition, types of intelligence, approaches to the study of intelligence, intelligence and educational success, intelligence and creativity).
7. Personality concepts in psychology and characteristics of major personality theories.
8. Personality structure and dynamics.
9. Content analysis of personality (temperament, cognition, motivation, integration of personality).
10. Overview of personality typologies.
11. Self-concept and resilience.
12. Emotional system of personality (characteristics of human emotions, features, classification of emotions, subjective and objective aspects of emotion, individual differences in emotions, emotional intelligence and factors influencing its formation.

Information on the extent and intensity of the course: Přednáška 4 HOD/SEM. - Teacher's information
- Contact hours are based on consultation of selected topics. Non-contact hours are realized via an e-learning environment available at http://elearning.fvp.slu.cz/. At the website, students can use learning materials with on-line assignments. Credits are granted upon successful completion based on a written or an oral assessment where the student demonstrates knowledge of compulsory and recommended literature and discusses their on-line assignments. The student can consult the mentor concerning independently studied topics, be it in person, in group sessions or via e-mail.
