Course objectives
The aim of the course is to introduce the student to the anatomy and histology of periodontal and physiological tissues around the implant. It also focuses on the etiological factors of periodontopathies, the principle of their action on the organism and the basic defensive reactions of the immune system. The student will learns to examine the patient and read radiographs.
Learning outcomes
Professional knowledge: the student can define basic concepts related to periodontal anatomy and histology. The student understands the basic principles of primary and secondary etiological factors.
Professional skills: the student can take a medical history and perform a clinical examination.
General competency: The student understands the principles of periodontopathies at the level of immunological response. The student also understands the genetic basis of periodontopathies.
Competency: The student understands the anatomy and histology of the periodontium and can explain the nature of the etiologic factors.
Syllabus
  • Seminars:
  • 1. Anatomy and histology of the oral cavity and periodontium.
  • 2. Etiology of periodontopathies, dental plaque, oral microbiology, bacterial complexes.
  • 3. Medical history and examination in periodontology
  • 4. Specific and non-specific defences, genetic basis of periodontopathies.
  • 5. Types of implants, osseointegration, healthy tissues around the implant.
  • Exercise:
  • 1. Instruments used in periodontology - periodontal probes, furcation probes, curettes, types of curettes.
  • 2. Examination of the periodontal patient. Examination of mucous membranes, tongue, lip red gingiva - attached and free gingiva, frenulum strokes their examination. Practical training and demonstrations.
  • 3. Parodontological, plaque and gingival indices used in periodontology, practical training of their collection, possibilities of visualization. plaque in the mouth, practical training.
  • 4. Patient instruction and motivation, cleaning methods suitable for periodontal patients, dental appliances, practical training in mouth.
Assessment methods
Credit requirements: 100% attendance at the seminars (students who could not attend compulsory instruction for serious reasons will be assigned an alternative way of fulfilling their study requirements).
Written test: min. 80% success rate
