- Course objectives
- The course objective is to acquaint students with the etiology, epidemiology, prevention and prophylaxis of the most frequent oral diseases.
- Learning outcomes
- Professional Knowledge: Student have knowledge of the cause and mechanisms of the formation of dental caries and periodontal diseases. They know the methods and means of prevention and prophylaxis. They have knowledge of specific dietary factors in the protection and promotion of dental health.
Professional Skills: Students can rationally use the information obtained in professional communications with the patient. They can perform professional oral hygiene. They can build individual preventive programmes and applications of collective preventive programmes. They know the principles of patient motivation and instruction for individual oral hygiene. They can assemble and evaluate a nutritional protocol.
General Qualification: Students can examine the hard and soft dental tissue and diagnose pathological process in a timely manner and eliminate possible complications.
Competences: Based on information gathered, they can prepare an individual preventive treatment plan. - Syllabus
- Lectures:
- 1. Preeruptive and posteruptive influence of nutrition, nutritional counselling.
- 2. Methods and means of oral hygiene, toothpastes and mouthwashes.
- 3. Recall system.
- 4. Preventive programmes in oral health.
- 5. Examination of risk factors for dental caries and periodontal diseases using the current “chairside”.
- 6. methods - tests, cariograph and its interpretation.
- 7. Options and principles of surgical treatment of periodontitis.
- 8. Overview of interventions in the field of periodontal plastic surgery.
- 9. Possible solutions to substandard fillings and prosthetic work.
- 10. Cooperation with the periodontist, pedodontist and practical dentist.
- 11. Examination in the field of dental implants.
- 12. Peri-implantitis treatment options.
- Training:
- 1. Dental treatment and prevention in patients with general diseases.
- 2. Practicing individual methods of oral hygiene on models and among students. Prevention of complications in dentistry.
- 3. Methods teeth cleaning. Sealing teeth.
- 4. Scenario of preparation for a short promotional preventive communication for the media - group plan.

- Credit requirements: 80% attendance at the training (students who could not attend compulsory instruction for serious reasons will be assigned an alternative way of fulfilling their study requirements).. Seminar paper elaboration. Passing a credit test requires 80% success rate.
