Course objectives
The aim of the course is to introduce the historical fundamentals of social work in Czech lands and abroad which has become a part of state social policy in modern history. For understanding this discipline, of which the practical activity unfolds, explains, softens and solves social problems, the students will learn not only principal theories and methods of social work in historical context but also historical genesis of this issue.

  • 1. Historical conditions of social policy. Introduction to issue and question of religion and social solidarity.
    2. World religions and resources of their social solidarity
    3. Philosophical topics important for social work from prehistory till the beginning of the19th century
    4. From German classical philosophy to current liberalism and communitarism
    5. The journey of western world from ancient reforms of social work to beginning of social security and constitution of social work
    6. Influence of social work of scientific disciplines in inter-war period
    7. Czech lands and tradition of social work till 1945
    8. Social work in our state from World War II till 1989
    9. Essential changes in system of social work after 1989
    10. Current problems of social work in present day and perspectives

Teacher's information
The tutorials will be lead on the principle of independent work of students, they will complete lectures and will become a way-out to discussion about individual problems, based on self-study of recommended literature. The written test will verify theoretical knowledge as well as current problems of the discipline.
