Course objectives
The course aims to provide students with basic information in genetics. It describes the structure and function of amino acids and proteins. It deals with defects of translating of genetic code and their causes. In the next phase the course explains the translation of genetic information with diploid organisms (including humans) and rules which apply to combination of parent characteristics at reproduction process. A following part of the course focuses on human genetics. It deals with ethical-social specifics and eugenics. Next it explains basic research methods. It gives examples of most common genetically conditioned diseases and their symptoms. Learning outcomes: Professional knowledge: The student is able to describe and explain basic principles of heredity. The student is able to deal with model tasks according to the specifics of various means of genetic expression. Professional skills: The student is prepared to use their knowledge in other specialized subjects focused on clinical practice in coherence with heredity and genetically conditioned disease. General ability: Student is capable of making independent decisions and communicating with people afflicted by hereditary disease. The student demonstrates knowledge of basic requirements according to particular disease. Competence: The student is capable to mediate needed information to individuals, families, groups and relatives in suitable form in regard to their competence and minds that the information is comprehensible and evaluable in the sense of client awareness.
